Yes. Matala is in Crete, so you can pick up in one place and return in almost any other location across the island — Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, Agios Nikolaos, and more. Just add the drop-off point when booking.
You can collect in Matala itself, at Heraklion airport (HER) or port, at Phaistos or Tymbaki, or at your hotel or villa anywhere in the south Crete area. Add your preferred location during booking.
Paid and free car parks sit at the village entrance, a short walk from the beach and caves. In summer, arrive before 10:00 to secure a spot — it fills up fast from mid-morning.
Park your car in Matala and hike along the coastal path — about 10 to 15 minutes each way. Wear shoes with a good grip, carry water, and avoid the midday heat in July and August.
An economy car handles the main paved routes to Phaistos, Kommos, and Agia Galini. For the gravel track to Agiofarago gorge or off-road access to smaller coves, a compact SUV with higher ground clearance is more comfortable.
Phaistos Palace is 15 to 20 minutes away, Kommos and Kamilari about 10 to 15 minutes. Agiofarago gorge takes 40 to 55 minutes, Agia Galini 45 to 60 minutes, Gortyna and Zaros Lake 45 to 60 minutes, and Heraklion 60 to 70 minutes.
One full day covers Matala beach, the caves, and Phaistos. Two days let you add Red Beach, Kommos, and Kamilari. Plan three days if you want to include Agiofarago, Agia Galini, and the Gortyna to Zaros loop. Allow four or more days for a day trip to Heraklion.
Book in minutes, choose flexible insurance, and pick up where you land or stay.
