Yes. Choose Premium Insurance and pay on arrival with cash, debit, or a prepaid card — no blocked funds on your card, no deposit to recover afterwards. The price shown at booking is exactly what you pay at handover. With Basic Insurance, some partners may require a refundable deposit and a credit card as security.
Our partners cover the Ierapetra area flexibly. Common handover points include Ierapetra town centre or port, your hotel or apartment, Koutsounari, Myrtos, and resorts along the south coast. If your accommodation is in a remote spot, add the address in the booking notes and we will confirm availability. Drop-off at a different location — for example, pick up in Ierapetra and return in Heraklion — is also possible; select it during booking.
Generally yes. The long seafront promenade has free street parking along most of its length, and there are small open-air lots near the old town and the Venetian fortress. In July and August the seafront fills quickly in the evening — aim to park before 19:00 or walk one block inland. In mountain villages such as Kalamafka or Males, spaces are limited but manageable with a smaller car.
Boats to Chrissi Island (Gaidouronisi) depart from Ierapetra port, usually between 10:00 and 10:30. The crossing takes about 45 minutes. Book tickets in advance during peak season and carry water, sunscreen, and reef-safe products — the island is a protected nature reserve with no permanent shops. Always check the wind forecast in the morning: the Libyan Sea can get choppy and boats are cancelled on very windy days. Return boats leave the island in the early afternoon.
A small economy car handles Ierapetra's town streets and the main coastal road easily. For mountain routes to the Lassithi Plateau or inland gorge roads, a car with higher ground clearance or a compact SUV is more comfortable. If you plan to reach secluded coves via gravel tracks, confirm with your rental partner whether those areas are covered by your insurance. Families or groups benefit from a 7-seat or automatic vehicle.
Absolutely. Heraklion is roughly 2 to 2.5 hours via the north-coast VOAK highway, or 2.5 to 3 hours via the scenic south route through Myrtos and Arvi. Sitia is a 75 to 90-minute drive east along a beautiful coastal road — stop at Makrygialos and Analipsi on the way. Agios Nikolaos is about 45 to 60 minutes north. There are no toll roads on Crete, so you only pay for fuel.
The main E75 coastal road east and west of Ierapetra is wide and well maintained. Mountain roads heading north — to Lassithi via Kalamafka or to the Sarakina Gorge area — have tight hairpin bends and significant elevation gain; drive slowly and use pull-offs for faster traffic. Village access tracks and gravel routes to remote beaches can be narrow — always check with your partner if those areas are covered by your insurance. Night driving on mountain roads is not recommended.
Two to three days covers the highlights: the Chrissi Island boat, the east-coast drive to Sitia and Vai, and a loop through Myrtos. Four to five days lets you add the Sarakina Gorge, the Lassithi Plateau, and Agios Nikolaos. A full-week rental is ideal if you are based in Ierapetra — and the daily rate is typically cheaper for longer rentals.
