Collect your car at EFL Airport and drive the biggest island in the Ionian Sea: the only way to reach Myrtos viewpoint is by road, Melissani Cave and Fiskardo have no direct bus from the airport, and the island is large enough that a scooter or taxi simply won't cover it. Transparent pricing, no hidden fees, full insurance with no credit card required.

Local rates, no surprises
Direct pricing from vetted Kefalonia partners. The price you see at booking is the price you pay at the airport — no add-ons at the desk.
Airport collection
Pick-up and drop-off exclusively at EFL Airport. Provide your flight number at booking and the car is ready when you land.
No credit card rental
Choose full insurance (zero excess) and the rental company waives the deposit entirely. Pay by debit card or cash.
Real insurance — not a refund policy
You are covered directly by the rental company, not a third-party broker that makes you pay upfront and claim back later.
Kefalonia is too large to explore without a car
At 781 km², Kefalonia is Greece's largest Ionian island. Fiskardo is 55 km from the airport via mountain roads, Melissani Cave 35 km, Assos 50 km. There is no viable bus network connecting these sites to the airport — a car is not a luxury here, it is the only practical option.
An underground lake inside a sky-lit cave, the most dramatic beach viewpoint in the Ionian, a Venetian village that survived Greece's worst earthquake, and a northern harbour frozen in the 18th century — none of them accessible without a car.

An underground brackish lake inside a collapsed sea cave where a circular opening in the roof lets sunlight pour directly onto the water, turning it an electric shade of turquoise. You take a rowing boat across the lake through two chambers. Arrive between 11:00 and 13:00 — the sun angle through the opening is at its best. No direct bus from EFL Airport; a car is the only practical way to get there.

Greece's most photographed beach — a crescent of white pebbles framed by sheer white limestone cliffs dropping into electric-blue water. The clifftop viewpoint above the beach is only reachable by road. The beach itself is accessed via a steep 2 km switchback road. Arrive before 09:30 in July and August; the car park fills completely by 10:30.

A tiny pastel-painted village on a narrow isthmus connecting a pine-forested peninsula to the mainland, crowned by the ruined Venetian castle of Assos. The castle circuit takes 45 minutes and offers the best elevated view of the bay. Assos has no bus connection — it is a car-only destination. Park at the village entrance and walk in.

The only village in Kefalonia that survived the devastating 1953 earthquake completely intact. Its Venetian harbour is lined with 18th-century coloured mansions, now home to tavernas and boutiques. A popular superyacht stop in summer. Drive north on the scenic coastal road — allow 90 minutes each way from the airport and plan a long lunch.
Kefalonia rewards long drives more than any other Ionian island — the roads are good, the distances real, and the variation between north and south is dramatic enough to feel like two different islands.

Full day from EFL Airport
The classic Kefalonia drive. Stop at the Divarata clifftop for the Myrtos panorama, descend to the beach, continue north through the hairpin road to Assos for the Venetian castle walk, then push on to Fiskardo for lunch on the harbour. Return via the inland mountain road through Karya.

Half day, 35–50 min from EFL Airport
Two of Greece's most impressive natural caves in one morning. Drogarati is a dry stalactite cave with acoustics so exceptional that concerts are held inside — allow 30 minutes. Melissani is the underground lake — arrive at 11:00 for the best light. Finish at Antisamos, the beach used in the film Captain Corelli's Mandolin, for an afternoon swim.

Half day from EFL Airport (includes 20-min car ferry)
Take the 20-minute car ferry from Argostoli harbour to Lixouri to reach the Paliki Peninsula without the long road detour. Petani Beach on the peninsula's west coast is one of Kefalonia's most dramatic — a long sandy bay backed by red and white limestone cliffs. Finish at Xi Beach, the only red-clay mineral beach in Greece, before returning to Argostoli on the same ferry.

2–3 hours from EFL Airport
Kefalonia produces Robola, a crisp white PDO wine grown only on this island's mountainous limestone terrain. The Robola Cooperative in Omala Valley offers free tastings. Combine with the ruined Venetian fortress of St. George above Peratata and the Argostoli waterfront for a half-day inland circuit.
Fill up before heading north
Petrol stations are well-distributed around Argostoli and Sami but sparse north of Assos. Fill the tank before the Myrtos-Assos-Fiskardo run — you will not find reliable fuel between Assos and Fiskardo.
Myrtos road is single lane in sections
The 2 km descent to Myrtos beach is a narrow switchback with passing places. Go slowly, use your horn on blind corners, and pull into a bay to let oncoming cars pass. Avoid it during peak midday hours in August.
Melissani Cave: arrive at 11:00–13:00
The sun shines directly through the cave roof opening only for a few hours around midday. Visiting outside this window means the famous turquoise light effect is much weaker. Plan your cave trail accordingly.
North of Assos: allow extra time
The road from Assos to Fiskardo is scenic but narrow and winding through mountains. Budget 45 minutes for 25 km — do not use satellite navigation arrival time estimates; they undercount the curves.
Argostoli for parking and supplies
The island capital has the best parking, the most supermarkets, and the widest choice of restaurants. Use it as your daily base before heading out — it is only 10 minutes from the airport.
Argostoli ferry for Lixouri and Xi Beach
The car ferry from Argostoli harbour to Lixouri crosses the gulf in 20 minutes and runs frequently throughout the day. Driving around the Gulf of Argostoli to reach the Paliki Peninsula takes over an hour each way — the ferry is the only practical option for a half-day trip to Petani and Xi Beach.
Return car before peak departure times
EFL Airport handles multiple simultaneous charter departures in peak season. Plan your return at least 30 minutes before standard check-in time.
Yes. By selecting full insurance (zero excess) through Karpadu, the local supplier waives the deposit entirely. You can pay by debit card or cash — no credit card is required at any stage.
Yes — more so than almost any other Greek island. At 781 km², Kefalonia is the largest Ionian island. Fiskardo is 55 km from the airport, Melissani Cave 35 km, Myrtos 40 km. There is no reliable bus network connecting the airport to these sites. Without a car you are limited to Argostoli and organised tours.
Exclusively at EFL Airport. Provide your flight number at booking and the car will be ready when you land.
A full circuit is approximately 200 km and takes around 4–5 hours without stops. Most visitors split the island over two days: north (Myrtos, Assos, Fiskardo) and south (Sami, Melissani, caves, beaches). One day is not enough to do justice to both ends.
Book in minutes, choose your flexible insurance and collect the car as soon as you land at EFL.
